quiet weekend.....

With Slate at his mom's, and Tina half way 'round the world, it was a very quiet weekend around here. It was kinda like the calm before the storm. School starts back this week, and that means waking up and moving about at 6am :-( I have thoroughly enjoyed not getting outta bed until at least 8, sometimes even later, but those days are over, for now. 

I threw and trimmed a few bowls, spent a little time attempting to clean up my garden, waited on a few customers, and went to Zimmerman's Vineyards Saturday night with my friends Jeff and Michelle. Our Two Cents played the blues, and the wines, as always, were tasty. I wrapped up Sunday night by grilling a pie for myself -- goat and fresh mozz cheeses, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and salami, with a little fresh basil and hard cheese grated on top after it came off the grill.

Although most days are still in the 90's, it won't last forever, and it's time to get my head pointed in a different direction. Cooler weather is around the bend, time to plan my fall garden, and get cranking in the studio. All for now.....

events in and near seagrove this weekend.....

Sometimes I get so involved in what's going on here at home, I somehow seem to miss stuff going on just down the road from me. While checking the local news online this AM, I came across an article describing this weekend in Seagrove as "Summerfest Weekend." I know this event has been in e-mails and in the local newsletter, but somehow the dates just didn't register with me. Although I'm not participating in the event, I'm firing my kiln today, and will have my new pots on the shelves by this weekend. So, if you're in town for Summerfest, stop by the museum and check out what they're up to, then slide on down 705 (south) about 1.5 miles, and take a left on Fork Creek Mill Rd., drive another 1.6 miles and you'll find me on the right.

 Zimmerman's Vineyards is celebrating "Another Sisyphus Saturday" on June 19th from 5pm - 8pm. Entertainment will be provided by The April Fools. Goat Lady Dairy cheese trays will be available too.

zimmerman's.....

Zimmerman's Vineyard's 3rd. birthday party is this Saturday from 10-8. Although I've never been able to attend their birthday parties, I've been to their vineyard on other occasions, and like I mentioned in a blog entry from 2008, "it's probably as close to Provence as I'll ever get." It's a beautiful space -- the vines, the tasting room and flagstone terrace, the Uwharrie's in the background, and gracious hosts Leslie and Norm Zimmerman. Hmmmmhhhh, maybe I will make it this Saturday afternoon after all.
